Vitamin D (calciferol) represents at the same time both hormone and fat-soluble vitamin, "sun vitamin". In 1936 it has been allocated from cod-liver oil.
Distinguish its two active forms which are called vitamin D now:
1. Vitamin D 2 - is synthetic vitamin of phytogenesis which is formed as a result of an action of ultraviolet rays on some barmy fungi, its primary vitamin - ergosterol. Enrich with vitamin D 2 food, add to additives.
2. Vitamin D 3 carries also another name "natural" vitamin D which form meets in the food of animal origin. It is considered more optimum for the human body.
These forms of vitamin D in kidneys and liver will be transformed into the calcitriol hormone which is a physiologically active form of vitamin D - 1,25-dioksikholekatsiferol. It influences cells of muscles, kidneys, intestines. In intestines, it promotes synthesis of protein carrier for calcium transport, and in muscles and kidneys intensifies reabsorption (the return absorption) of free calcium.
Vitamin D in food
Products of animal origin: butter, cheese, milk, liver, vitellus, fatty fish (herring, mackerel, salmon, sardines in oil, tuna), cod-liver oil.
The norm of vitamin D
An average daily norm of vitamin D and its active forms - 5 mkg or 300-600ME, the most admissible quantity – 15 mkg. Vitamin D dose for children – 400 – 500 ME.
