Sorbic acid (food additive E200) is colorless, slightly soluble in water, crystals.  
Sorbic acid was first obtained from rowan juice in 1859. In 1939, its antimicrobial effect was discovered.
In the mid-fifties of the 20th century, the industrial production of sorbic acid and its use as a preservative E200 began. Nowadays, sorbic acid (food supplement E200) is used on an industrial scale.

Food supplement E200 has antimicrobial properties, is neither toxic, nor carcinogenic. In reasonable quantities,
sorbic acid has a positive effect on the human body, increasing immunity and contributing to detoxification of the human body. Due to these properties, the E200 additive is widely used in the food industry as a preservative,
allowing to increase shelf-life of food products.
